How to Determine Your Company Culture

Reading the Signs of Your Camp
A wise warrior does not charge into battle blind. To lead effectively, you must know the ground you stand on. Your company culture is revealed in the daily rhythms of your business—the way decisions are made, how conflict is handled, how victories are celebrated, how failures are treated.
What story is your company writing each day? Is it one of collaboration and trust? Or is it survival of the fittest?
Battle Plan
- Listen to the whispers: What do your people say when you are not in the room?
- Study the rituals: Do you honor achievements publicly? Do you provide feedback consistently? Rituals reveal priorities.
- Examine turnover and retention: If your camp sees constant desertion, the culture may be toxic. If your people endure through storms, loyalty is alive.
- Ask with courage: Surveys, one-on-ones, and honest conversations will uncover truths you may not want to hear—but must.
Only by identifying the culture that already exists can you decide if it aligns with the empire you seek to build.
